Around 300 growers have planted GM canola in NSW and Victoria, up from 104 in 2008.
In total, 41,000 hectares have been planted, which is a four-fold increase on the previous year. About 70 percent of this has been planted in Victoria and the remainder in New South Wales.
If the season is good, this will result in an estimated 50,000 tonnes of GM canola being delivered.
There are now a total of 1300 to 1400 individuals accredited to grow GM canola, with about 900 of these completing the accreditation process this year.
