Genetically modified (GM) canola was grown commercially for the first time in Australia, in New South Wales and Victoria, in 2008 by 108 growers. Despite a challenging season the outcome was positive. GM canola 2008 reports can be found here.
In 2009 a larger number of growers are expected to plant the GM canola varieties in New South Wales and Victoria. In addition, a small quantity of GM canola (not greater than 1000 hectares) will be grown (under an exemption order) in Western Australia.
